There is a big movement in the Passive House standards in the construction industry but what is it?
Passive House is a sustainable construction concept that provides for affordable, high-quality buildings as well as comfortable, healthy living conditions.
Scotland are bringing regulations from 2024 to ensure that all new homes built in Scotland use renewable or low-carbon heating. These systems will also be phased in for new non-domestic buildings from 2024.
With commitment from the government to reduce Carbon emissions, it is expected that the UK will follow Scotland with these regulations in some way.
For construction companies it is important that we understand the Passive House standards and put ourselves in a position that we can build to these standards to meet with changing regulations and to meet customer needs where they are looking to reduce the impact on the environment of their project.
Passive House Retrofit
It isn’t all about new builds though, Passive House offers a retrofit involving the renovation of older homes, helping to reach Passive House standards. When achieved, this will allow even the oldest of homes to successfully achieve energy-efficiency and reduced energy usage. With increasing power bills this could be a solution for many to save money whilst future proofing their homes and decreasing their carbon footprint.
